Our family has trimmed down significantly to better fit in our aircraft (a VariEze). We went from owning a solo cross country or dual pattern hopping airplane to owning a dual cross country airplane - while making no changes to the aircraft.
Imagine being able to learn / teach in a Cessna 150 again. Imagine fitting in that sporty little Pitts or maybe trading a bunch of your own extra weight for more cargo or fuel. This is reality. As a pilot, you know that airplanes aren't vain but they still need to obey the laws of physics. One of the most painful sights for us is watching amateur aircraft builders slave over a project for literally decades to only be too big to fit in it / fly it once complete or to give up realizing that they'll never fit either physically or perhaps in the weight and balance envelope.
